With awesome games, activities, food and Mr. Mack in the dunk tank, our PTA’s first-ever Spring Carnival fundraiser is going to be epic!!

The event will also feature a Silent Auction, offering amongst other wonderful items, themed gift baskets for DDE families and friends to bid on. Our goal is to put together two baskets per grade and we need your help to gather the items. Please access the sign-up for our basket using the link provided below. We need your support; all proceeds will directly benefit the PTA’s programs and initiatives for our children, and staff.

Academic Happenings

In math we are finishing up our unit on fractions.  We have learned to partition shapes into equal pieces, discussed the meaning of a denominator, numerator, and unit fractions.  We have also learned how to determine if fractions are equivalent by comparing drawings and using number lines.  We are now learning how to compare fractional amounts by using drawings, number lines and comparing denominators and numerators.  Upon completion of this unit, we will explore customary measurement.

In Language Arts, we have finished Peter Pan and the prequel.  The students seemed to enjoy the book study a lot.  We will now be focusing our attention on writing a book review of Peter Pan. This is an opinion writing piece where they are required to state why they do or don’t recommend the book.  We will continue working on theme as we study Aesop’s Fables, and Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tales.  We have also been working on past, present and future tense verbs as well as adding proper punctuation to our sentences.

In Science we are studying Force and Motion.  We have discussed Newton’s first law of physics and have demonstrated it by doing several experiments.  We will continue to discuss motion, force, direction, gravity and inertia.
